We also present a Culture Concert every term at the school, where music learners, choirs and instrumental groups perform for parents and the public.
Several music learners can enter for external graded music exams (UNISA, ABRSM, Trinity College London, Rockschool). The benefit of external exams is that learners are assessed by an examiner from an independent unbiased board, which gives the learner and his/her parents an accurate indication of his/her progress and skill level. It also keeps the instructor’s skill up to international standards. ABRSM (The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music), Trinity College London and Rockschool are UK-based examination boards whose awarded qualifications are accredited and accepted internationally, opening doors for further studies in the music field abroad.
School Choir / Skoolkoor
Conductor / Dirigent: Michael van der Walt
Accompanist / Begeleier: Anne-Marié Buchholz
Assistant / Assistent: Selma Janse van Rensburg
Our main choir consists of approximately 50 lively, enthusiastic singers that seize every challenge that comes their way! During the Outeniqua Choir Festival and other Eisteddfods our choir usually achieves excellent results. Outeniqua Primary Choir is FUN!
Junior Koor / Junior Choir
Conductor / Dirigent: Amanda Hattingh
Accompanist / Begeleier: Michael van der Walt
Assistant / Assistent: Selma Janse van Rensburg
The Junior Choir consists of mainly Grade 4 and 5 learners. As new entrants to our school, the Grade 4 learners have the opportunity of developing several skills that contribute towards becoming an Outie chorister. Development of musical understanding, group ethics, social intelligence, creativity and punctuality are elements that are presented in a fun and active way. The Junior Choir comes into contact with a variety of music and different languages. Many of their songs are highlighted by movement and gestures, which they love!
Flouties! (Blokfluit / Recorder Ensemble)
The recorder is a much easier instrument to learn to play and also form a very good basis for other orchestra instruments, like saxophone, clarinet and flute. It also makes it easier for children to learn the fundamental aspects of music.
Marimbas
Afrigter / Coach: Amanda Hattingh
Outies Eisteddfod
In 2022 we launched the first interhouse eisteddfod for our school. This created a platform for all Outies to participate in different cultural sections, while collecting points for their respective teams (Gold, Blue and Green).
We enlist the services of different adjudicators for each section, each adjudicator, a professional in his field. By die Outies Eisteddfod is elke deelnemer ’n wenner!
Music and Dance performances
Our school has a rich history of music and dance productions, where the focus is on mass participation of the highest possible standard. Being part of a successful production has immense value regarding social skills, group work, dance skills, performance technique and many more. During the performances each participant becomes a “star” on stage … donning a beautiful costume, dancing his/her heart out under the spotlight and receiving applause!
This event takes place once every four years and the next production is scheduled for….2023! Previous productions were “Screen Sensations (2000)”, “Carnival 30” (2004: Outeniqua Primary turns 30), “flyingdotcom” (2007), “The Mystery of Madame X” (2011), “Starstruck” (2015) and “Carnival: Magic Everywhere” (2019). We are looking forward to mass participation by children and parental involvement in numerous areas.
The Outeniqua Primary Early Act Club was launched at the beginning of 2013 and is currently in its third year. It is a service organization that operates under the stewardship of the local Rotary Club. Grade six learners are incorporated as members of the Early Act Club and a children’s committee takes the lead in projects.
Our main aim is to teach children to give without expecting a reward and to try to make a positive contribution in areas that are identified.
A group ofl interdenominational learners meet once a week to acknowledge their love for Jesus their Lord and Saviour through praise and worship and short Bible messages. Our atmosphere is relaxed with the emphasis on FUN, while our focus is on bringing honour to our Lord who is the Way, the Truth and the Life. SU members also have opportunities to reach out to the community through supporting and/or initiating various projects, such as
We’re dedicated to keep our youth fit and healthy while having the utmost fun.
