Musiekopvoeders: Anne-Mari Buchholtz, Wynand van Reenen, Donna vd Vyver, Kallie Landman, Drini Botha, Hannelouw van Staden, Calista Annandale.

Indivuduele en groeplesse:

Musiekonderrig geniet hoë prioriteit by Laerskool Outeniqua.

At present six music educators offer instruction in the following instruments:

  • Piano / Klavier
  • Ukulele
  • Guitar / Kitaar
  • Bass Guitar / Baskitaar
  • Drum kit / Tromme
  • Recorder / Blokfluit
  • Clarinet / Klarinet
  • Flute / Dwarsfluit
  • Saxophone / Saksofoon
  • Violin / Viool

External graded music exams

Several music learners enter for external graded music exams (UNISA, ABRSM, Trinity College London & Rockschool) every year and Outeniqua is proud of the 100% pass rate.  The benefit of external exams is that learners are assessed by an examiner from an independent unbiased board, which gives the learner and his/her parents an accurate indication of his/her progress and skill level.  It also keeps the instructor’s skill up to international standards.  As the Music Industry develops internationally in sophistication of various styles and genres, music learners can now take graded exams in jazz and rock disciplines as well as the conventional option.  ABRSM (The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music), Trinity College London and Rockschool are UK based examination boards whose awarded qualifications are accredited and accepted internationally, opening doors for further study in the Music field abroad.

Sedertdien het hul verskeie trofeë verwerf vir beste Jnr Ensemble by Eisteddfods.

School Choir (Conductor & Coach: M vd Walt, Accomponist: A Buccholz)

Our main choir consists of approximately 85 lively, enthusiastic singers that seize every challenge that comes their way!  A choir camp at the beginning of the year and several performances during the year make for an exciting choral experience for the members.  During the Outeniqua Choir Festival and other Eisteddfods our choir usually achieves excellent results.  The year’s programme includes the following:

  • Skemerklanke Koorfees (April)
  • Musiek Montage (Mei)
  • Outeniqua Choir Festival (George Eisteddfod) August
  • Performances in various churches in our community
  • Our own school concert
  • Musique (annual music concert hosted by our school)

Outeniqua Primary Choir is FUN!

Vokale Ensemble

Twenty-two passionate, energetic and eager young singers = The Outeniqua Vocal Ensemble! It is such a delight to be able to develop the talents of this group!

The following competitions and festivals guaranteed an outstanding two years:

  • A TKV Choir Competition – Achieved a gold certificate .
  • George Loerie Eisteddfod -Achieved A++, A++ and as a result were chosen to take part in
the Festival Concert where only items of 95% and higher are included . (2014 and 2015)
  • Outeniqua Choir Festival -Achieved A++, A++, A+, A+ (2014) and A++, A++, A++, A++ (2015) A++, A++, A+, A+ (2016).
  • Artscape Schools Arts Festival in Cape Town We were chosen to take part in the Gala Concert. Here we were awarded a throphy for Excellent Vocal Performance.

  • Van Toeka to Nou
  • All the World Sings
  • Screen Sensations
  • Carnival 30
  • Flyingdotcom
  • The Mysterious Madame X
  • Starstruck!

Early Act

The Outeniqua Primary Early Act Club was launched at the beginning of 2013 and is currently in its third year. It is a service organization that operates under the stewardship of the local Rotary Club. Grade six learners are incorporated as members of the Early Act Club and a children’s committee takes the lead in projects.

Our main aim is to teach children to give without expecting a reward and to try to make a positive contribution in areas that are identified.

The Red Cross Children’s Hospital (Oncology Section)

Once again the contributions of Outeniqua Primary’s parents and learners exceeded all expectations. Many of the families of the kids at the Rooikruis Hospital do not have the financial means to support them while undergoing treatment. Outeniqua Primary donated hundreds of food items, toys, toiletries, games and DVD’s.

Planting a new garden next to the hockey field.

This area needed a bit of colour but the soil was extremely hard and barren. A group of  learners worked very hard to turn the soil so that it could be composted and planted. Parents donated plants as well as a beautiful pot which forms a focus point. This area needs further development but will be done this year.

Painting of refuse bins for a litter free school

The refuse bins were cleaned and re-painted as they looked a bit shop soiled. Unpainted bins from the sports field were also painted in our school colours. As one of our aims is to upgrade our school environment, we thought that the usage of these bins would create a litter free school!

Birthday and Christmas parties  for the Wikkelwurms at Bethesda.

Our learners organized eats and cool drinks for these children and Outeniqua Primary’s parents donated sandwiches that the Wikkelwurms could take home to their families. The highlight of the visit was the interaction between our children and the Wikkelwurms. They ate cupcakes, chatted, played and the little ones were carried around. It was an enjoyable event! It was an enjoyable event!  We have also organized a Christmas party, where the little ones are treated on all kinds of “Christmas eats”, complete with Christmas tree and fairy lights.

Attending a Rotary meeting

On invitation a group of Early Acters attended a meeting of the local Rotary Club where they were given a delicious meal and had to give feedback on their activities. This was done through a short powerpoint presentation and the Outeniqua Early Acters were applauded for their initiatives and hard work.

You can only be truly happy when you have discovered the joy of giving.”

Chess

Outeniqua Primary School’s chess club is enthusiastically supported by players and parents alike. We have an active group of approximately three dozen players of varying ability.  The club caters for all levels – from beginner to advanced. Players regularly participate in tournaments and achieve noteworthy successes.  Outeniqua is usually represented at all levels of competition, with players chosen for the SWD squad.  The best news is that membership is free of charge and all are welcome.   It’s your move!

Drama

Redenaars

Scripture Union

A group ofl interdenominational learners meet once a week to acknowledge their love for Jesus their Lord and Saviour through praise and worship and short Bible messages. Our atmosphere is relaxed with the emphasis on FUN, while our focus is on bringing honour to our Lord who is the Way, the Truth and the  Life.  SU members also have opportunities to reach out to the community through supporting and/or initiating various projects, such as

  •  Bless-A-Child (Life community Services)
  • Winter Woolie Week

Buitelugopvoeding

Kunsklasse
